India's Certification

The Bureau Of Indian Standards (The Bureau Of Indian Standards) Is India's Only Product Certification Body, Referred To As BIS. BIS Certification Has Compulsory Certification And Non-Compulsory Certification. Before entering the Indian market, products subject to compulsory certification must pass inspection and testing in accordance with corresponding testing standards. The local accredited laboratory in India is responsible for the inspection of samples during the product certification process.

ISI

ISI is the name given to the national standards body, and it stands for Initialism of Indian Standards Institution. There was a need to deliberate on ISI’s functions in the mid-1980s, which resulted in the legislation of the BIS Act 1986. This led to the renaming of ISI to the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), with the goal being to guarantee quality certification of goods and support harmonious standardization development, with well-elaborated statutory powers. In 2016, this act was revised as the BIS Act, hence making BIS the National Standards Body.

TEC

According to the Indian Telegraph (Amendment) Rules, 2017, all telecom devices need to pass compulsory testing and certification. The comprehensive method for this Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipment (MTCTE) is notified under these rules. These tests are usually done by the Indian Accredited Labs selected by TEC as the Conformance Assessment Body (CAB). It’s based on CAB’s test reports that Telecommunication Engineering Center (TEC) shall issue this certificate.

In 1989, the Indian government promulgated the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR). The act stipulates that all road motor vehicles, construction machinery vehicles, agricultural and forestry machinery vehicles etc. that are eligible for CMVR must apply for compulsory certification from certification bodies recognised by the Ministry of Transport. The act marks the beginning of vehicle certification in India. Subsequently, the Indian government required that key safety components used in vehicles must also pass the test certification, and on September 15, 1997, the Automotve Lndusty Standard Committee (AISC) was set up.

In May 2006, according to The Energy Conservaion.Act 2.1 of India, the Indian Ministry of Energy established Emreau of Enegy Eficincy (BEE) as the owner of the efficiency of the Energy efficiency labeling program. Responsible for the development, formulation and implementation of India's energy labelling scheme. The program, which aims to provide energy efficiency information to help consumers select products, was launched on May 18, 2006. The first products to be implemented are frost-free refrigerators and tubular fluorescent lamps.
