Cells/batteries that have not obtained BIS certification cannot be sold in the Indian market. Starting from March 14, 2020, IS 16046:2018 will be enforced. At that time, Application for IS 16046:2015 will be no longer accepted and Test report under IS 16046:2015 will be no longer recognized.

The executive standard is: IS 16046: 2018 (refer to the international standard IEC 62133: 2017)

When applying for BIS certification, the cell also needs to obtain the corresponding certification. And battery can start testing only after the cell get the certificate. Therefore, the period is extended accordingly.
