Why apply for UN38.3?

According to the requirements of civil aviation regulations, airlines and airport cargo collection and transportation departments should conduct transportation document review for lithium batteries, and the important thing is the UN38.3 safety test report for each type of lithium battery. The report can be provided by third-party testing agencies designated by the civil aviation industry or by battery manufacturers capable of testing. If you can not provide the test report, the civil aviation will prohibit the lithium battery air transportation.

Why apply for UN38.3

One, The condition limitation

If the lithium batteries and packs met in transport, can be transported as non-restricted articles (non-dangerous goods) . If any of the following conditions cannot be met, shall be followed the dangerous goods collection transport of UN3090 or UN3091 (see annex).

(1) Limitation on lithium content

1. For metal lithium or lithium alloy primary battery, the lithium content shall not exceed 1g; For lithium ion cells, the lithium equivalent content does not exceed 1.5g.

Note: primary battery are also called battery cells.

2. For metal lithium or lithium alloy batteries, the total lithium content shall not exceed 2g, and for lithium ion batteries, the lithium equivalent content shall not exceed 8g.
